So summer is upon us and in the world of videogames it is a dreary time indeed. The summer games drought is a time when there seems to be a lack of major releases. This mainly affect console gamers as they do not have the grand oasis that is the Steam Summer Sales to sate their thirst. There are some good games that have come out this summer that i have bought myself, Watchdogs was the first among these and seems to be the lone AAA game that has been released so far this summer. Another little gem i picked up was the Saints Row 4 re-release that included all of the DLC for a mere $30 this was quite the buy and after having played SR3 which was free on the Xbox 360’s Games with Gold a few weeks back this was even more of the same type of fun.
There is one other big event console gamers can look forward to this summer especially PS4 and PS3 owners and that is the Destiny beta that starts next week. It seems to me that Sony is having alot more fortune this summer the Microsoft is. Mainly with their early access to the Destiny beta as well as their own beta for Playstation Now there is alot more going on there then with Microsoft. However Games with Gold has delivered more then a few gems so far as I said before SR3 was one and another was the original Darksouls, both of which were big hits when they came out and the chance to pick them up for free after missing out is a big boon.
But I feel I must ask the question, why are there not alot of good AAA games released in the summer? It seems to be to be an optimum time to release a game. most gamers are around the age of college students, so those of us gamers that are attending university are now out of school. Without classes taking up the majority of our time or having to worry about making good grades we now have alot more free time to spend gaming. I know the holidays in winter are a preferred time to release games but can we please get some more games out this summer!
